Welcome to the SCSC

You’re all signed up — here’s what happens next.

Welcome to Selwyn Combat Sports Centre (SCSC)!

We know starting at a new gym can feel a little confusing — Where do I go? What class do I book? What do I bring? Do I need my own gear?

This page has everything you need to get set up and ready for your first day at SCSC.

1. Download the App

Download the SelwynCombat App

The first thing we recommend is downloading the SelwynCombat app.

Our app is the easiest way to manage your training with us. You can:

  • View our current timetable
  • Book into classes
  • Manage your profile
  • Keep track of your bookings
  • Receive important gym updates
  • Contact our team with questions

Download the app

iPhone / Apple

Android

Once downloaded, sign in using the same email address you used when you joined SCSC.

If you have trouble accessing your account, please don’t create another membership or profile — send us a message and we’ll help get you logged in.

2. Check your details

Check membership and contact details

Once you’re logged in, take a moment to check that your details are correct.

For parents, make sure your child’s details are for them and not for you, so that you’re booking the class for the child who will actually be attending. If you have multiple kids or adults you will each need your own profile.

If you have multiple family members you can link them into one family account, reach out if you need help with this.

It’s also important that we have your correct contact details so we can reach you if required.

Check your membership is correct. are you on a Free Trial week? Or Combat Only? Strength only? or All Access?

3. Book Your Classes

Classes can be booked in advance and recurring

You can see all available classes through the Schedule section of the SelwynCombat app.

Find the class you’d like to attend and tap Book.

Please book before attending whenever possible. This helps our coaches know who is coming and allows us to manage class numbers.

Not sure what to book? Click on the relevant guide below.

4. What to Bring to Your First Class

Keep it simple.

For most first sessions, bring:

  • Comfortable training clothes
  • Water bottle
  • Towel if required
  • Jandals/slides for walking around off the mats
  • Any training gear you already own
  • A good attitude and willingness to learn!

You do not need to buy loads of equipment before your first class.

We have free to use loaner gloves, shin guards and Gi’s for people without gear.

Come along, try the programme and talk to your coach about what you’ll need going forward.

5. Before You Step on the Mats

Gym rules help us keep the facility clean and safe for everyone.

Shoes off on the mats

Never walk onto the training mats wearing shoes. Likewise, please don’t walk around the bathrooms or outside barefoot and then return to the mats. Wear jandals/slides when you’re off the mats.

Come to class clean

Please wear clean training gear and maintain good personal hygiene.

Keep nails short

Fingernails and toenails should be kept short to avoid accidentally scratching training partners.

Cover cuts

Any cuts or open wounds must be appropriately cleaned and covered before training.

Feeling sick?

Please don’t train if you’re unwell or have a contagious skin condition. Keeping our mats and training environment clean is everyone’s responsibility.

6. Arriving for Your First Class

First Visit - Be a bit early

For your first visit, we recommend arriving 10–15 minutes before your class starts.

This gives you time to:

  1. Find your way around
  2. Get changed if needed
  3. Meet your coach
  4. Let us know it’s your first class
  5. Ask any questions
  6. Be ready when class begins

After your first visit, arriving around 5–10 minutes before class is generally plenty of time.

Please try to be ready to start when your scheduled class begins.

7. Need help / Have Questions?

Message us through the app

If you’re unsure about anything, the easiest way to contact us is through the SelwynCombat app, it goes directly to our email.

You can use the app to ask questions about:

  • Which class to attend
  • Your child’s class
  • Memberships
  • Bookings
  • Training equipment
  • Timetables
  • Your account
  • Anything you’re unsure about before your first visit

Don’t worry about whether it’s a “silly question” — if you’re unsure, we’d rather you ask before arriving.

8. What Happens After Your First Class?

The first few sessions are about learning how everything works.

You don’t need to remember every technique, understand all the terminology or keep up with people who have been training for years.

Keep turning up, ask questions and give yourself time to learn. Most people find that in the first couple of months of training they find their rhythm and place.

If you enjoy multiple programmes, talk to our coaches about how you can structure your training across the different sports available at SCSC.
